Mr. and Mrs. Muffins summer project!

After deciding to take a break from school this quarter, I spend most of my times focusing on some personal projects. One of them is preparing to release Mr. and Mrs. Muffins second album, just like the first album we are thinking to release it on vinyl again. But this time, we are aiming for a more ambitious look with a gatefold cover and illustrated booklet attached on it. We like the experience that we got from gatefold vinyls with album booklet attachment that you can find in most vintage children’s music vinyls and one of Noah and my favorite album “Wild is Love” by Nat King Cole.

The songs on this second album still has the nostalgic and storytelling vibe. Mr. Muffins thinks that this album sounds more sad than the first one, but I think  it sounds more hopeful. Perhaps we can blame the pregnancy mood for that feeling. I’ve been thinking a lot about De Stijl and Swiss Design. I used simple shapes, solid colors and playing with negative space to form  little creatures in each pages. The second step of the illustration process, would be to add some textures that hopefully still maintain the nostalgic sound of Mr. and Mrs. Muffins. Purple – For Every Moment

At the end of our color class, we were assigned to represent a color and do a final presentation of that color as a pitch to a company called 50 Shades of Gray who was planning to change their corporate color identity. Guess What!!!?? We Won the pitch!! Thank you (again) to Rachael Conley to be the voice of our purple pitch video.

I <3 Colors

A whole series of color relationship combinations. I enjoyed this project so much, all the compositions were inspired with my first 10 week pregnancies. Chinese Opera Posters

I used 3 hues blue (tint), red and yellow. Harmonious color combinations because they are TRIAD colors, and the same INTERVAL to one another in the color wheel.

a harmounious poster ? why ? because i’m using violet and its analogous “sisters” (red-violet and blue violet). Similar value and saturation of three hues also complementing the composition. If you see closely, you can see sample of vanishing boundaries relationship among these hues….

Outdoor Apparatus – Responsive Web Project

Coding is like math! it is really addictive and you cant get off your computer until you solve the problem. I’m really excite with this project, it is one of the most challenging project this quarter but I’m happy with my first website look. Another cool thing, this is also a responsive site. So if you wanna see how it looks like on tablet or mobile phone, it should still looks decent 🙂

Make Friends with Cupcakes-Cover Book Design

Second project of our production class! We were assigned to design a cookbook cover, I decided to design an Organic Cookbook Cover, thank you to the awesome photographer fellow Rachael Conley for her time and talent to help me taking picture of the cupcake and the strawberry. I learned a lot about selection tools in photoshop and concepting a design with photo shoot involved. 🙂

Dream House

Learning color can’t be more fun when you get to use it to design your dream house. I used analogous colors of Yellow Green, Yellow and Yellow Orange! It sets in Borneo a retreat tree house where every living creatures can spend the entire time to meditate up in the open air. A human size squirrel decided to go to the retreat and enjoy meditating on the tropical breeze of Borneo.

Seattle Dance Project

Typography!! is practically my favorite class this quarter… it is amazing what you can do with “font” when you see it as “typography”.

Our long quarter project is to create a new identity (logo) and promo tools for our chosen company. I decided to work on Seattle Dance Project, a local based company started by senior dancers from PNB. They combined classic structure of ballet with modern interpretative dance. They also collaborate with high class dancers local and international.

My big idea for this project is UNITY IN MOTION, as union of two dance style, union of dancers, union of elements into one. After brainstorming session with Jill and some classmates, we also extend the translation of this big idea into a visceral experience, an intuitive and natural moment that leads one thing to another like the movement of graceful dancers. Based on this exploring concept, here are a series of design for Seattle Dance Project.
